Science diplomacy

Science diplomacy is broadly understood as a series of practices that stand at the intersection of the two fields.
Science diplomacy has been divided into three phenomena:

  • science for diplomacy – the use of science to advance diplomatic objectives;

  • diplomacy for science – the use of diplomatic action to further scientific and technological progress; and

  • science in diplomacy – the direct involvement of science or scientific actors in diplomatic processes.

Institut de diplomatie publique acts as a space to  test, model, and scale successful practices in science diplomacy providing its resources for thought and analysis to serve stakeholders who develop, implement, or teach all aspects of science and diplomacy.

Science diplomacy

The Institute brings together experts from NGOs to raise the role of various non-state actors in today’s multilateralism and to unpack the applicability of science diplomacy for non-state actors.
A central theme of our work is how sustainable innovations by international non-state actors promote the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other global governance fields.

Modern Architecture

1

Jointly address the challenge of advancing in a sustainable transformation of science

jointly addressing structural inequalities through science diplomacy and by means of concerted PD actions to fully implement the Agenda 2030

2

Inclusion of vulnerable populations in the design, implementation, analysis, and assessment of results

Explore. Co-create. Share: We can do amazing things together

We support and enhance the important efforts of the non-state actors in diplomacy by providing objective research, analysis and reports, as well as participating in global events.

We’re introducing for public diplomacy professionals a new way to showcase our existing and future collaborations with people across disciplines like academics, scientists, artists, and reporters.

How Scientists Contribute Quotes for Reporters

We reach out to scientists in our network for answers to science-related questions frequently asked by reporters.
Experts share their insights and knowledge in written responses to the Institute that are brief, clear, and quotable.
We compile responses from multiple experts, along with any disclosed conflicts of interest, and publish them on our website.
Reporters can use these expert-attributed comments in news stories.

How Scientists Contribute to Quick Facts

We research and write Quick Facts, then turn to our database of experts to identify scientists with relevant expertise who might serve as reviewers.
Selected scientists offer comments and edits to ensure accuracy, completeness, clarity, and inclusion of relevant and up-to-date details.
The Institute periodically invites experts to review existing Quick Facts and recommend updates based on new research or evolving scientific consensus.
